Bevel (also known as loop or wilkie) bits have extra loops on the ring of the bit for connecting the cheekpiece of the bridle and the reins. With the cheekpiece in a fixed position on one of the loops, and the rein attached to the larger part and able to move about like a loose ring, only a small amount of additional poll pressure is added to a horse who needs just a little more. With both the rein and the cheekpiece in the fixed positions, the bit becomes a mild gag and adds more control and will help promote better head carriage in the horse.
