A typical dressage arena is 20m by 60m. In the summer, that means you can set it up on any flat grass or outdoor arena footing that will accommodate it. Our dressage arenas can have a couple of rails removed as well, to make a more compact 20m by 40m ring, should your space dictate it. Your indoor ring may even be able to accommodate it in the winter, depending on how large an indoor you are lucky enough to have!
The ability to find your perfect 10 and 20-meter circles in a dressage ring is owing to the set up of the letter markers. A 20×40 set up will have 8 letters – A, K, E, H, C, M, B & F. The larger set up will also incorporate V, S, R & P. A, and C mark the centre line at the short sides, and the rest are located down the long sides of the ring – 6m off the corners and either 12 or 14 meters apart depending on the length of your ring. Riding your horse on that circle may not be any easier, but at least you’ll know where the circle should begin and end!
